With domestic travel throughout the UK gradually opening up from the 26th April onwards, many are now planning a long-wished for trip to see new sights and explore new places. Shetland is the perfect destination for the kind of outdoor, activity holiday many will be looking for this year.

STA members are really looking forward to welcoming visitors back to the islands. Our community has worked incredibly hard over the past year to keep levels of coronavirus here to a minimum. Therefore, it is really important that visitors to do all they can to help protect our community and limit any potential spread of the virus.

In addition to following the standard Scottish Government’s FACTS advice (Face coverings, Avoid crowds, Clean Hands, Two metres distancing, and Self-isolate if you have symptoms), you should also take a rapid test for coronavirus before you travel to Shetland. Lateral flow test packs are available for free to anyone planning to visit Scotland’s islands. Visitors are encouraged to order the packs and take two tests before beginning their journey.

One test should be taken three days before departure, with another carried out on the day of departure. If you or anyone in your household tests positive, you should book a more sensitive PCR test via NHS Inform before deciding whether to cancel your visit.

Although, there is no official requirement to take a test, and you won’t be asked to provide a negative test result on your journey to the islands, it is an extra precaution you can take, quickly and easily, for your own piece of mind and to help protect island residents. Please help give our island communities confidence that you’re doing everything you can to enjoy Shetland responsibly.

We look forward to welcoming you to Shetland.
