Shetland Community Bike Project

Sport and LeisureLerwick and Bressay

We are a cycle shop selling refurbished second-hand bikes and also have a repair service available for the community of Shetland and visiting tourists. We have pedal bikes and electric bikes available for daily or weekly hire. Electric bikes come with a charger and would require a mains point to charge as required.

Conveniently located in the town centre of Lerwick, we have a generous stock of pedal and electric bikes for hire or sale. Our hire service covers exclusive use of your bike for 24 hours, however bikes can be returned sooner at your convenience.

There are several locations throughout Shetland which will provide a charging facility for E-bikes, including the Old Haa in Yell and Hoswick Visitor Centre in the south mainland.

Weekly hire is available at a reduced rate.

We are also happy to provide a reliable and efficient cycle repair service to visitors and the Shetland Community alike.

The bike project was established in 1999 as a non-profit making charity. Originally set up by Caroline Adamson, the project was for people with barriers to work. This covers lots of issues and problems people may have regarding returning to work or working for the first time. The project gives people purpose, responsibility, training and a wage. It can help people reach their full potential, not only working as part of a team at the project but offering advice and helping people get into other areas of employment or training.

Trainees are provided with a range of experiences including:

  • Re-establishing a daily routine of attending work
  • Reintegration into society
  • Dealing with the public
  • Support with job search skills
  • Training to match skills required by local employers
