One of the must-see attractions in the South Mainland of Shetland, this category A listed building is a refurbished Overshot Watermill, which originally commenced grinding grain for the Quendale Farm in 1868, expanding to grind Oats and Bere from local Crofts within a radius of about 30 kilometres.

The Mill has a permanent display of Crofters and Farmers machinery and tools as well as displays of other historical significance. Our current photo exhibition 'Shetland's Birds and Wildflowers' includes some of the migratory birds recorded in close vicinity to the Mill.

As well as our video of the Mill in full operation we also have a video of the demise of the MV Braer, which happened in close proximity in 1993.

We provide an information service for visitors to Shetland with a comprehensive stock of leaflets on display. Our small craft shop stocks a good variety of gifts - locally sourced whenever possible. Hot and cold drinks are available, as well as a selection of Shetland-made biscuits. The children always enjoy completing one of our Scavenger Hunts (answer sheets available if required).

Our displays are arranged over 3 floors and some areas may be difficult to access for those with mobility issues.
