Background of House
Built in 1886 just outside the ramparts of the actual Fort Charlotte, the whole block was originally called Ogilvie Building. When built the part which is now Fort Charlotte Guest House consisted of a shop at street level with internal stairs leading up to the living quarters on the 2nd to 4th floors. Many years ago two brothers decided to split the premises, one brother retained the shop and the other the house, complete with wash-house and drying green.
Today the attractive entrance to the Guest House is at the back of the building, accessed by a few steps from Charlotte Street, with the quaint wash-house (now used as a secure store for bicycles, large sporting equipment etc) and up a short flight of stairs the drying-green (now a pretty patio garden.)
Please note we do not have any self-catering accommodation. The Fort Charlotte Self Catering, our neighbours, are a totally seperate business and whilst we can highly recommend them, we are not able to assist with bookings. The owners may be contacted via their website www.fort-charlotte.com
