Welcome to the Shetland Tourism Association
The Shetland Tourism Association (STA) was established in 2005 as a trade association for tourism businesses in Shetland.
The main function of the STA is to provide a unified voice for the tourism industry in Shetland expressing the interests of our members, whether that be to our local council, the Scottish Government or the National Government. We also explore opportunities in training and business development for our members as well as ensuring Shetland is represented at the VisitScotland Expo business to business trade event each year.
Above and beyond this the STA is an excellent forum for networking, sharing ideas or concerns and coming together to develop Shetland's tourism product.
In this digital age it is important for the tourism industry to embrace digital media and marketing as this becomes the main route to reach our customers.
Tourists are now keen to gain experience through multi-media digital content when they are planning and booking visits. They are eager to see images, watch videos and gain "personal recommendation" through user reviews before bookin and whilst planning.
Highlands & Islands Enterprise have developed a range of materials to help tourism businesses get to grips with the digital world. With a range of materials being made available and webinars which help introduce you to key social media such as Facebook, Twitter & Instagram, how they can help your business and how they can help you communicate with your customers.
